I loved this.

Here's the thing: I'm a longtime Springsteen lunatic :). Did he try too hard on The Rising? Yes. And, I actually think The Rising (the song) is one of the *least* effective songs on the thing. You mentioned a few better ones.

But the other thing about John Cook is that..wait, he supposedly loves Springsteen and doesn't realize the guy writes *anthems*??? He expected a Springsteen/E-street album with no anthems? What?

Some of us comfort ourselves with anthems, not just the "little" things. No, The Rising did not work for me as an anthem--but Into The Fire sure did, in every way possible.
