Assault weapons maker Bushmaster makes not-suitable-for-hunting guns including the AR-15, available at your local Walmart and used last week to kill 27 people, including 20 young children, at a school in Newtown, CT.

In order to sell its deadly wares, Bushmaster peddles absurd versions of “manliness” in which carrying an assault weapon capable of massacring most of a small town makes you “manly” and respecting your wife makes you “unmanly.” At Bushmaster’s site, you can “revoke” someone’s “man card” for a variety of supposed transgressions against manliness, helpfully provided by Bushmaster. Many are of the real-men-don’t-listen-to-their-wives variety, like “Must ask permission to ask permission” and “Where ‘yes I will’ becomes ‘if she’ll let me.’” Here’s one set of Bushmaster-provided options; I’ve highlighted one particularly noteworthy item:
